Savannah Drug Dealer, a Repeat Offender, Sentenced to 14 Years; Broadnax, 35, Had Baby Girl in His Back Seat When He Was Arrested

A Savannah drug dealer who had a baby girl and gun in his car when he was arrested in July 2015 will serve 14 years in federal prison.

Chief U.S. District Judge Lisa Godbey Wood sentenced Tyrone Anwan Broadnax, 35, on Monday for his convictions on trafficking cocaine, crack cocaine and the psychedelic drug ethylone.

Broadnax has sold drugs and perpetuated violence for many years in Savannah, sometimes after getting early release from state penitentiaries, U.S. Attorney Ed Tarver's office said.

After undercover officers saw Broadnax pass drugs in a "hand-to-hand" deal in July 2015, undercover officers from a Chatham County-Savannah drug team arrested him and searched his vehicle, Tarver's office said.

The officers found 95 baggies of drugs packaged for sale, a 9 mm handgun and an infant girl in the back seat of the car Broadnax was driving through Savannah.

Carver said Broadnax made a full confession, telling police, "I sell every drug. …
