Mayor Makes Funny Choice; Dowell Set to Deliver Stand-Up Routine

LISMORE mayor Jenny Dowell has tap-danced for the Cancer Council, sung for Jodie's Inspiration, and will now perform stand-up comedy for RealArtWorks.

And she's nervous about doing it.

"I've never done stand-up comedy before," she said.

"Please don't expect that I'll be a whiz at it.

"I'm very nervous and hopefully I'll get an occasional chuckle."

Cr Dowell said the routine, which was co-written with the "Queen of Comedy", Mandy Nolan, will be based on some of her experiences as a mayor.

So how did the mayor get roped into the role of stand-up comedian? Quite simply, she was asked to, and she said yes.

"You have to be able to laugh at yourself," Cr Dowell said.

"And a part of being mayor is putting myself out there in situations outside of my comfort zone."

Cr Dowell's comedy act will be one part of The Most Komikal Kabaret to be staged on Friday night - a fundraiser about bringing people together from different walks of life. …
