Big Spender with Big Debt; Fraudster Cops $12,793 Bill

A MAN who spent close to $13,000 on fraudulent credit cards in seven months will face jail if he fails to repay the money within a year.

Magistrate Virginia Sturgess gave Simon Joseph Peter Nicholls 12 months to repay $12,793 he spent on three credit cards which he took out in his ex-girlfriend's name.

Nicholls, 44, pleaded guilty to 10 charges in Ipswich Magistrates Court yesterday including three counts of attempted fraud, six counts of fraud and one count of stealing.

The court heard he spent the money on luxury items including NRL game tickets, concert tickets and club membership between April and November last year.

Nicholls applied for six credit cards using his ex-girlfriend's identification but was only successful on three applications.

"It was a protracted period of fraud," Ms Sturgess said.

"Having got the cards you wasted no time in rushing out and spending the money.

"They were clearly not essential living expenses - rather for you to have a good time. …
