Camp Will Help Disadvantaged Kids

THE Northern NSW branch of the Lord's Taverners is hoping to run a cricket clinic for disadvantaged kids at Lennox Head this summer.

The clinic will be held at Lake Ainsworth Sport and Recreation Camp in January but needs further funding to get off the ground.

"There are a variety of things we can do at the sport and rec camp," local branch chairman Stan Gilchrist said.

"The staff do a great job there and the previous camp was a great success.

"We're constantly doing whatever we can to fund these events and we run them virtually whenever we can.

"I think we'll be able to get it going again but we're always looking for sponsors.

"It's an exciting thing to be part of and it's all about helping the kids who are constantly disadvantaged."

Many of the kids have never seen the ocean due to disabilities, financial difficulties, family trauma, split families and their geographical isolation.

They will be given supervised exposure not only to the ocean, but to a range of sporting activities delivered by trained teachers. …
