RIO GOLDEN GIRL; Ex-St Ursula's Student Wins at Paralympics

PARALYMPICS: Former St Ursula's College student Katie Kelly can now call herself a Paralympic gold medallist after her win in the PT5 para-triathlon early yesterday morning.

Accompanied by her sighted guide, Sydney 2000 Olympics silver medallist Michellie Jones, Kelly rushed to the line more than one minute ahead of her closest competitors at Fort Copacabana.

"I was just so focused on the race. Once I came out of the water, I ramped up the pace on the bike leg and was able to stay in front as we transitioned to the run. From there I just gave it everything," Kelly said.

"It was a relief to cross the finishing line and know I'd done it.

"It's just so special to share it with everyone and to have my family here in Rio with me."

In what has been an incredible 12 months, Kelly went from a relative unknown to national hero after completing a World Championship-Paralympic gold double in the early hours of Monday morning. …
