TOURISM is Queensland's second biggest industry, worth $23 billion a year and a new $950 million development within two hours of Bundaberg is set to grow that number.

The Hummock Hill Island Resort project, 30km south of Tannum Sands, has been in the pipeline for 16 years and on Saturday it took another step forward, releasing a report with changes to the resort to meet with State Government conditions.

The Education Queensland Industry Partnership students could be in the prime position to take advantage of the proposed $950 million Hummock Hill Island Resort according to their coordinator Tamra Costello.

"I have spoken to the class about Hummock Hill and if it gets approved they could work there," Mrs Costello said.

The resort will have two hotels, restaurants, cafes, bars, a golf course, convention rooms and homes for permanent residents. It will be able to host 3900 people at a time.

It will create 3500 construction jobs, 700 full- time positions once completed and a further 850 flow-on jobs in the region, bringing $95 million to the region a year. …
