Swim Duo Makes Splash; Young Guns Ready Tofire at Meets

SWIMMING: Teenage talent Ty Hartwell will train alongside some of the country's best at a Queensland Swimming camp in Brisbane next week.

The Rocky City swimmer was invited to the Towards Tokyo camp after having achieved consistently high performances at meets in the past 12 months.

From there, Hartwell will fly to the Australian Institute of Sport in Canberra to represent Queensland at the state team championships.

The 15-year-old qualified for the event after bagging eight medals from his 11 events at last month's short course championships in Brisbane.

The team-based competition sees states go head-to-head in a variety of individual and relay events to score points for their state.

It is the first time Hartwell has swum at the championships and he is the only regional swimmer in the Queensland team. (The last swimmer from CQ to qualify was Alanna Bowles, who went on to swim at the Glasgow Commonwealth Games. …
