ORMESBY C leapt to the top of the Cleveland and District Summer Table Tennis League Division One with a 9-1 win over Hartlepool Westbourne.

Ormesby's victory was as convincing as the scoreline suggests, with Joe Cope and Dave Gofton both scoring hat-tricks and Jack Cope taking two before losing in four games to Keith Robinson.

Elsewhere, Beaumont Accountancy Nomads A slipped down one into fourth place after losing 7-3 to Ormesby A. Tony Langley was the star of the match for Nomads, scoring a hattrick, while Michael Young, Karl Shaw and Dave Haswell all won two each for Ormesby.

The match was very close as Ormesby was fortunate to win three of their seven sets at deuce in the fifth game.

But they prevailed, with Shaw beating Dring and Steve Baines and Young getting the better of Baines, all by the narrowest of margins.

The results put Ormesby C (107-13) at the top of the table by three points with a match in hand, followed by Swerve A (104-14), Ormesby A (82-13) and Beaumont Nomads (79-14). …
