Article excerpt

Jacksonville police said they detained several people Thursday night after someone was shot multiple times on Skycrest Drive south of Beach Boulevard.

Few details have been released by the Sheriff's Office on the shooting, which occurred shortly before 9 p.m. But the victim's mother told a friend on Facebook that "I need a miracle" for her son, Trey Gilpin of Starke.

A family friend also posted an update on Facebook: "He was shot twice in the back of the head and twice in the arm***but Trey is fighting, so let's pray for him. He was taking up for a woman's life trying to keep her safe."

The Sheriff's Office couldn't confirm any of the posts or arrests, but did say in its summary of what happened that there is no danger to the community.

TWO MEN LIKELY TO SURVIVE SHOOTINGS

Two people were shot Thursday night in the 200 block of South McDuff Avenue, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff's office.

Officers were called to the scene about 9:20 p.m. on a report of a man screaming for help and found an 18-year-old lying on the ground at McDuff Avenue and Dignan Street, according to the police report. The man said he did not know who shot him in the stomach. His condition wasn't considered life-threatening, police said.

An employee at a nearby store told officers he heard two gunshots, then looked outside to see the 18-year-old on the ground struggling for a gun with another man on top of him, the report said. The employee heard two more gunshots, then the man on top fled in a gold sedan.

Police said another gunshot victim walked into a hospital a short time later. The wound also was not life-threatening.

No arrests have been announced as the Sheriff's Office's continues its investigation.
