School and Family Ties Help Bring about a Blessed Union

Sara Brown and Brian Corrigan attended Bishop Kenny High School at the same time, but they never really crossed paths there.

That is, until eight years later, when they both happened to be at Bishop Kenny for a middle school basketball game. At the time, Sara was a teacher at one of the schools that was playing. Brian used to coach the other team and was there to watch a former player. Both were sitting with a large group of teachers and Brian asked them all if they wanted to go out and grab a bite after the game. Sara was the only one who said yes. She admits she had already eaten and wasn't even hungry. They enjoyed that night out together and started dating soon after.

Sara and Brian both say their love of family was an important factor in their relationship. At one point, Brian invited her to play putt-putt golf with his cousins. As he recalls, "I made it sound like a few people were going." She could never have imagined that literally 30 of his cousins showed up. "I have never been so nervous about my putt putt score before," she joked.

In January 2015, Brian and Sara were walking on the seawall at Castillo de San Marcos in St. Augustine. The setting was so beautiful that Sara declared, "We could retire here." Brian questioned the "we" part, so Sara said, "OK. I guess 'I' can retire here." But then, moments later, Brian got on one knee, took out a ring and proposed. A passerby saw them from a distance and took a picture. It turned out to be the most perfect photograph of them with the sun setting over the water. "No one believes me that I didn't pay someone to take that picture," Brian said.

Sara and Brian married on May 29 at St. Paul Catholic Church in Riverside. Everyone got a chuckle out of the ringbearer who, while walking in the procession, dropped a goldfish cracker out of his pocket. …
