FOOTBALL: Brisbane Roar defender Jade North (pictured) said yesterday that it was up to the players to prove Sunday's 4-0 loss to the Newcastle Jets was just a blip.

North, who was skipper in the absence of the suspended Matt McKay, said the group had the necessary character to bounce back against Central Coast Mariners this Saturday, after coach John Aloisi called the weekend performance the worst in his time in charge at the club.

"We had a game plan and we didn't execute," the central defender told reporters yesterday.

"Individually and collectively, we have got to put our hands up and say it wasn't good enough. At Brisbane Roar we have standards and we have to match those standards.

"Next week is going to be totally different and I know we are going to front up.

"As players, we have got a responsibility and we have to look at ourselves in the mirror and make sure we take that responsibility. …
