Eastwell in First Finals; Campdraft Start Nears at Showgrounds

RODEO: Warwick cowboy Mitch Eastwell will be competing in his first Australian Professional Rodeo Association National Finals Rodeo next week at the Warwick Showgrounds.

Eastwell made it to the top 15 for the finals after heading south for the tri-series rodeos in Victoria in March, where he was fourth in 4.6 seconds at Merrijig.

At Easter, he won the rope and tie at Emerald in a time of 8.75 and was fourth at Roma in 5.8.

He goes into the national finals ranked 13th in the rope and tie. Seven Warwick area cowboys have qualified for The Carlton Dry Warwick Rodeo National Finals starting Thursday night.

Eastwell was runner-up in the rope and tie in the National Rodeo Association last year. He competes in rope and tie, steer wrestling and team roping.

The 26-year-old works as a builder in the Warwick area and is on the road to a rodeo most weekends.

He is often in the same events as his brothers Wade and Brock. …
