AN INSPIRED innings in the field and with the ball from University skipper Chris Webster was not enough to keep Wests and the rain at bay in the Harding-Masden Shield on Saturday.

In a third-round one-day tie hampered by rain, Uni fell to Wests by 38 runs, despite Webster taking three wickets and three catches.

After winning the toss it was Wests who had the advantage of scoring before rain set in for the afternoon.

Webster's efforts with the ball ensured Wests would go into the changeover with a modest total of 139 to defend, but the weather had other ideas once Uni took to the crease.

A downpour meant a revised total of 100 from 20 overs would be required for Uni to earn a much-needed win, but a top score of 23 from opener Hemal Shah was the best it could manage in a total of 5/61. …
