Coast's New Man to Guide the Guns Phoenix Get Their Man for 2017 Run; Apprentice to CJ Bruton Signs on to Guide Coast Men for Next Season of the QBL

BASKETBALL: He's a Macksville man who's had one of the best apprenticeships in Australian basketball who has been tasked with taking the Sunshine Coast forward.

After Noosa, Caloundra and Maroochydore merged to become the now Sunshine Coast Phoenix, the club's new head coach for the 2017 season is locked in.

Brayden Heslehurst will be the men's head coach next year, having worked as an assistant coach to CJ Bruton in 2015 and 2016 for the Brisbane Spartans SEABL team.

The 24-year-old New South Welshmen was also head coach of the Spartans Southern Basketball League team, winning an undefeated championship in his first year in 2015.

In a statement released by the Phoenix yesterday afternoon, Heslehurst said he "could not be happier to start my QBL coaching career at the Sunshine Coast Phoenix".

Sunshine Coast Basketball Association coaching director Darren Best said Heslehurst's youth was no issue, confident his coaching pedigree would prove a success. …
