A MAN with an "appalling record" for violence has been jailed for inflicting grievous bodily harm.

Luke Duncan, 24, punched a man in an unprovoked attack which had a "terrible effect" on the victim leaving him frightened to leave his own home and was warned by a judge "learn from this before you murder somebody."

Teesside Crown Court heard that Duncan punched the man on January 31, 2015, and originally said he had done it after the man "pinched his bottom."

Jolyon Perks, prosecuting said: "The defendant said he responded to sexual provocation which, to be clear, he doesn't stand by now."

He added it was Duncan's "pathetic attempt" to give a reason for the assault and was "disrespectful" to police who arrived on the scene.

In mitigation, Robin Turton said Duncan was "appearing before the court as a man with a checkered past with violence and dishonesty on his record" albeit "relatively low-level violence. …
