Crash Start to New Job; from Crash to Record Land Sale

NEARLY dying in a helicopter crash seems a strange way to find a successful career, but rural property agent Michael Tomlinson figured if he was no longer able to run farms, he might as well sell them for a living.

Mr Tomlinson comes from a farming family at Auguthella and always imagined he would follow at least roughly in his dad's footsteps.

Mr Tomlinson said he had always taken a keen interest in piloting the mustering chopper and figured that was where his career would take him in the longer run.

That was until the fateful day the engine cut out while he was airborne.

"I was probably looking more into the helicopter side of the business but that took a bit of a turn when I put one on its lid," he said.

"I was just mustering cattle and basically the engine cut out.

"I did an emergency landing and that was pretty successful but I slid into a little erosion gully and rolled her over.

"I ended up spending five weeks in an induced coma and suffered severe burns to 62% of my body. …
