The Wrong Girl's Right Cars?

Article excerpt

Byline: Iain Curry

AHEAD of the final episode of The Wrong Girl on Ten next week, we caught up with three of its actors, Kevin Harrington, David Woods and Hugo Johnstone-Burt, to discuss their motoring lives.

What was your first car?

KH: A second-hand VW Passat in orange.

The first night I drove it I rolled it into a pole and put a big ding in the back bumper.

DW: A rotten rust bucket of a blue Toyota sedan for a few hundred quid that was clearly lethal to drive.

H J-B: A 1999 Subaru GX. I was 17 and thought a 12-inch subwoofer, canon muffler and blue neon light in the boot were cool.

What are you driving now?

KH: I bought a brand new Mitsubishi Outlander when I was working on Neighbours.

I like how it's reliable, but not how it's now getting old; but the car probably says the same about me.

DW: A Toyota Prius V. It's extremely clean and easy to drive, spacious and elegant.

It is so quiet though you have to toot to let people or cats know you're approaching.

H J-B: A Mk 5 VW Golf GTI 2.0-litre turbo with REVO Stage 1 tune.

I love it, but aftermarket parts for it from the UK or America are expensive.

What car did your family have growing up?

KH: We had a Holden Kingswood which Dad eventually swapped for two Toyota Corollas, one each for him and Mum.

Mum's is still going and my daughter used it recently. The motor will outlive us all.

DW: A Renault 4, Mazda 323 and two beige Austin Allegros.

H J-B: I remember a Toyota Tarago, Ford Falcon wagon and a bright yellow van.

What is your greatest frustration on the road?

KH: Traffic congestion.

DW: Traffic.

H J-B: People driving in the overtaking lane who aren't overtaking.

Where's your favourite place in the world to drive?

KH: We thoroughly enjoyed driving around Oxford University once. …
