Men Stand Up as Role Models for Others; Joint Move to End Violence

MEN are being asked to gather at the Bluewater Quay to make a stand against domestic violence.

The demonstration of support, from 10am on Friday, November 25, is part of White Ribbon Day.

Mike Fry, of Relationships Australia Mackay and Whitsundays, said the awareness campaign aimed to end violence against women.

It asks all Australian men to challenge the attitudes and behaviour associated with violence against women so we can begin to drive real change in the community.

The Mackay event will include the pledge, a tug of war contest and a Movember moustache contest.

"This is the seventh year I have taken part in it and we get a good turnout," Mr Fry said.

"This is an opportunity as a community member to take a stand and to be a positive role model to other men in the community and take up action to end violence against women."

The event is not just for men. Fathers can bring sons and women can come along and also bring their sons to show them men do stand up for this important cause. …
