That's a performance most first change bowlers would take, applying pressure and helping their team keep things tight.

But for Swifts first division newcomer Nigel van der Wert, such consistent bowling is becoming a regular expectation.

Although helped by the Redbank Plains wicket in his latest game on Saturday, van der Wert has been one of his team's best players already this season.

During the one-day series, the right-handed medium fast bowler took four wickets and scored a valuable 42 against the might of Laidley.

But on Saturday, at the start of the two-day Ipswich and West Moreton Cricket competition, it was a completely different situation.

After home team Eastern Taipans were bowled out for just 102 in 40.2 overs, Swifts limped to stumps being 8/84.

Three batsmen from each team fell to LBW decisions.

"The wicket wasn't rolled properly,'' van der Wert said.
