09:48 Racist comments made towards schoolboy Police investigating racist comments made to a schoolboy have released CCTV footage of a woman they want to speak to.

A 13-year-old boy was on the number 21 Go North East bus when racist comments were made towards him, police say.

The alleged verbal abuse happened between 4.05pm and 4.20pm on November 3 when the bus was near Durham Road in Birtley, Gateshead.

Officers say they continuing to investigate the offence and have released an image of a woman they want to identify and speak to.

Anyone with information is asked to call Northumbria Police on 101 quoting 205 08/11/16.

10:55 Body found in alleyway in Durham A man's body was found in an alleyway in County Durham.

An investigation has been launched by Durham Constabulary following the discovery of the body in an alleyway off Poplar Street. Police were called just after 6.30am on Monday after reports of an injured man lying in the street.

Officers and paramedics attended and the man was pronounced dead at the scene. Police say they are treating the death as unexplained at this stage. Anyone with information is asked to call Northumbria Police on 101.

13:38 Plane diverts to Newcastle in 'emergency' An EASYJET flight had to make an emergency landing in Newcastle after reports of fumes in the cabin.

The flight to Hamburg took off from Edinburgh Airport at 12.40pm today but had to be re-directed to Newcastle International Airport . The plane landed safely at around 1.25pm and emergency services and fire crews were waiting on the runway.

Airlive.net tweeted: "EasyJet #U26931 to Hamburg diverted due to fumes in the cabin. Spare aircraft on its way to Newcastle."

Lee Hardy was among the 161 passengers and six crew who were on the flight, which was scheduled to arrive in Germany at 3.30pm.

He said: "We are on the plane, grounded at Newcastle because of burning smell from the cockpit. We're disembarking now, so no Hamburg for us for a while. …
