PS4m Boost for Repair of Potholes in the Region; 74,000 Will Be Dealt within a Year, Say Ministers

NEARLY PS4m will be spent on fixing potholes in the North East in just one year.

And the cash will deal with 74,000 potholes, either by filling them in or preventing them from forming in the first place, according to the Government.

Ministers even claim to know exactly how many potholes will be fixed in each part of the region - at a cost of PS53 each.

The money is part of a package of road improvements announced by transport ministers. The North East will receive PS3.9m specifically for pothole repair for the financial year 2017/18. Northumberland is the biggest recipient of the fund, and has been awarded PS1,328,000 - enough to repair 25,100 potholes across the county.

And the announcement was welcomed by Anne-Marie Trevelyan, MP for Berwick.

She said: "Potholes may seem trivial but they can cause great damage to vehicles, incurring high repair costs. …
