12:46 Driver suffers head injury in crash A driver was taken to hospital after an early-morning crash in Bedlington. Police were called to the one-car collision in Stead Lane, east of Nedderton village. The driver's Ford Kuga had tipped on to its side. The male driver was taken to the Northumbria Specialist Emergency Care Hospital in Cramlington with a head injury.

07:50 Train ticket prices to rise in new year Train fares will go up by an average of 2.3% next year, the rail industry has announced. The figure is the average increase across all rail tickets and will take effect from January 2. But, on the East Coast Mainline, there will be a much sharper rise. A standard anytime single from Newcastle to London on Virgin East Coast is rising to PS146 - an increase of PS8 from the previous year. Virgin say it is still cheaper than the PS154 anytime single cost in January 2015, before Richard Branson took over the line.

13:00 Search continues for man seen on Tyne Bridge Northumbria Police say officers are still looking for signs of a man who fell from the Tyne Bridge into river below on Thursday morning. Police received a report of concern for a man seen on the wrong side of the bridge's railings at 3.45am on Thursday. Officers attended the scene but could not find anyone. They have checked CCTV and believe the man may have fallen from the bridge into the river.

14:00 Four jailed for death of disabled man Murderer James Wheatley has been jailed for life with a minimum of 23 years for the brutal killing of vulnerable Lee Irving.

His mother, ex-girlfriend and lodger are also facing years behind bars for their part in the death of the vulnerable victim. Wheatley was found guilty of murder after repeatedly stamping, kicking and punching the 24-year-old to death. The killer's mother, Julie Mills, thenpartner Nicole Lawrence and lodger Barry Imray, were found guilty of causing or allowing the death of a vulnerable adult. …
