Dwight Sights Not on Hitting Goal Tally despite Grabbing Another St James' Hat-Trick

DWIGHT GAYLE knows he is close to equalling his best-ever seasonal tally of goals but has vowed not to set himself a new target if he reaches it.

The Newcastle United No 9 is now sitting on 16 goals for the campaign so far and is just four short of his 20-goal haul in the 2012/13 season.

Gayle said at the start of the season he was aiming for 20 strikes this term, a figure he could even reach before 2016 is over.

When asked about his hopes, he told the Chronicle: "Combined, my best in a season was 20, seven at Dagenham and 13 at Peterborough.

"I will be happy if I beat that really."

When asked if he would reassess that target, Gayle said: "If you fall short you will be upset, the main thing is to go into each game hoping to score and help the team."

Gayle benefited from his good understanding with Mo Diame against Birmingham on Saturday and many fans also felt it was the Senegal international's best game for the Magpies in the Championship so far. …
