JULY | One of the biggest stories in July was the opening of the Alpamere water park in Scarborough.

Readers got the chance to hear about slides including the Black Hole, a slide that is the first of its kind, and was estimated that the riders would be able to achieve speeds of up to 50km per hour.

Another big story concerning Alpamere was the first look inside it. The Gazette managed to get a sneak peek of the PS14m alpine-themed waterpark.

AUGUST | A man was shot by police after pointing a fake gun at officers in Middlesbrough.

Police were told that a man had been seen possibly in possession of a firearm on Corporation Road in Middlesbrough.

Police traced the man, who pointed the firearm at himself and at police officers, leading them to fire a baton round. He was arrested on suspicion of possession of a firearm with intent to endanger life.
