A TEACHER from Teesside will start 2017 on a global high as she sings for millions of people around the world.

Susan Robertson was selected as the star singer in the grand finale of London's New Year's Day Parade.

Bedecked in Union Flags, the 48-year-old from Wynyard Village will take on the role of Britannia in a rousing rendition backed by more than 700 bandsmen and women.

The turn of year tradition in the capital is screened live on more than 500 TV stations around the world.

Susan, who sings with the Ravenswood Singers on Tyneside, said she was overwhelmed by the honour.

"I can't quite believe it," said. "I'm still pinching myself!

"The largest audience I have ever played in front of is probably around 500 so a potential audience of 500 million is mindblowing."
