Mutton Was Dressed Up as Lamb

ATAKEAWAY boss has been fined for selling mutton as lamb.

Azmal Khan, owner of the Last Days of the Raj on Durham Road, Gateshead, was also found to be selling peanuts as almonds following an inspection in June last year. Invoices from the shop showed the peanuts and mutton were routinely bought by the business. The kitchen was also found to be in a poor state and Khan closed the business while it underwent a deep clean and basic maintenance work.

This was complied with immediately, trading standards bosses said. Khan pleaded guilty to two charges and said that they had occurred due to a series of mistakes.

He was prosecuted for selling food which, on the restaurant's paper menus and online trading menus, was said to contain ingredients listed as almonds, when they were in fact peanuts.

He also admitted selling food labelled on the restaurant's menus as lamb when it was, in fact, mutton. …
