Top DJ: City's Clubs Are of Huge Cultural Significance

DRUM'N'BASS DJ Andy C says London's nightclubs are of "huge cultural significance" and need to be better understood by the authorities.

It follows a spate of closures, with clubs including Turnmills, Vibe Bar and Madame Jojo's shutting their doors for reasons ranging from rising rents to tough council restrictions.

Fabric was recently given a reprieve, but only after Mayor Sadiq Khan stepped in to urge Islington council to overturn its decision to revoke the club's licence.

Andy C, who sold out a headline slot at Alexandra Palace last year and has a residency at XOYO in Shoreditch, said: "The way that clubs have been disappearing, there's literally only a handful left. I don't think people in certain positions appreciate the cultural significance and how they help big cities in their standing in the world, how they inspire the next generation to become artists.
