IT might have been a bumpy start to the new year for Redcar's independent cinema but the historic Regent is back up and running for Teesside's movie loving public.

And boss Neil Bates has released his highlights for 2017 with some not to be missed blockbusters coming up on the list for film buffs.

A fault with the projector forced the sea front cinema to close for 10 days early in the new year until repairs could be carried out. Then a planned reopening set for January 14 had to be delayed after last weekend's storms caused some flooding at the back of the building.

The cinema, which started life as the New Pavilion theatre in the 1920s, is now fully back in action and on screen and, says Neil, there's a packed programme of films coming up in 2017.

He's looking forward to blockbusters War of the Planet of the Apes and Alien: Covenant in particular - and the next in the series of Star Wars films due out next Christmas.

Here's just 10 films to watch out for in a packed 2017 schedule: Late January and early February: Trainspotting 2 and The Lego Batman Movie will be on screen. …
