NORTH Shields Community Christians managed to stage their first-round League Cup tie against Morpeth Mighty Oaks at the third time of asking - and won 5-3. Simon Parker fired Shields in front in the fourth minute.

Jay Riches equalised after 20 minutes but Andrew Sword put Shields back in front two minutes later.

A header from Conor Higgins and a goal from Charlie Newell a minute before half-time had Shields 4-1 ahead at the break.

Two goals inside 10 minutes brought Morpeth back into the match at 4-3, Riches nabbing his second from the penalty spot followed by a Jake Newstead strike.

The match was wrapped up as Higgins notched his second from a corner to secure Shields a trip to Emmanuel Church Durham in round two.

In The Premier Division, leaders Consett Saint Patricks' match against Jubliee Church Teesside was called off.

This gave Stockton Church Portrack and Saint Paul's Ryhope chances to close the gap.

Andrew Brown opened the scoring for the Teessiders after 20 minutes and within another 10 minutes Alex Fawcett had struck twice to make it 3-0. …
