IFIRST came to FCA as a student in November 2013.

This placement lasted for six months and then I was offered a job as a supervising social worker, which I have been doing since September 2014.

I am also one of the "managing actual and potential aggression" instructors for the region. I absolutely love my job!

When social workers graduate they have an additional 12-month programme where they are more frequently supervised, must undertake a series of tasks and complete a portfolio to ascertain that they are competent and confident in their chosen profession.

This is called an assessed and supported year in employment, ASYE.

The programme consisted of a portfolio with a number of reflective pieces, observations by my line manager and ASYE assessor and other members of staff and evidence completed along the way. I had one-to-one monthly supervision sessions as well as getting together for reflective group discussions with another colleague who was completing his ASYE. …
