'A Replay Would Have Meant So Much to Us'

ACCRINGTON boss John Coleman was proud of his side's display at the Riverside but couldn't hide his disappointment at missing out on the cash boost of a replay at the Crown Ground.

Coleman accepted his side were beaten by a "great goal" as Stewart Downing struck in the second half but was right to point out the League Two outfit didn't just come to put men behind the ball - they created chances of their own.

One of the best openings fell to Sean McConville in the dying stages but the winger was caught in two minds and his effort rolled inches wide.

"It just caught him between two stools whether to go for a header or volley," said Coleman on the chance.

"That would have got us a replay, which would have meant so much.

"It was probably the last thing Boro needed or wanted but it would have been a Godsend for us. The finances of a big game like that, it would have probably been on TV and that would have set us up for next season.

"These games have a big impact on clubs like us long-term. …
