A COMMUNITY laced up their trainers and tested out their stamina to celebrate the life of a much-loved cancer victim.

Friends and family of determined Paula Hewitt came together at the weekend to host a charity work-out at CrossFit Teesside.

They teamed up and completed a gruelling fitness workout - raising more than PS750 for Maggie's Newcastle, in just a couple of hours.

Paula, who would have recently been celebrating her 33rd birthday, lost her battle with cervical cancer in June last year.

Staff at Maggie's - based at the Freeman Hospital - provided Paula with help and support throughout her brave fight against the disease.

The latest event takes the total raised for the charity to more than PS6,000 in Paula's memory, by those closest to her.

Coach and friend Ben Hunt, who organised the fundraiser, said: "Paula would have been so proud of everyone who came to our charity day. She couldn't say enough good things about Maggie's who helped her cope with the most horrendous of situations.

"The day itself was pretty humbling, the turnout was huge and the atmosphere was one of celebration not sadness, just the way she would have liked it.

"We would like to thank each and every person for taking the time to make it great a great success. …
