A PERVERTED loner groomed a string of children online, encouraging one girl to comply with sexual abuse by her uncle.

David Bagshaw, 66, was "oblivious" to the harm he could do and struggled to realise he had been speaking to real children.

He avoided going to prison at Teesside Crown Court for his vile propositions over the internet.

Prosecutor Paul Reid said Bagshaw had "a clear sexual infatuation with children, both boys and girls" spanning a long period of time. Forensic computer investigators trawled through "thousands of lines" of messages in Bagshaw's chat logs, uncovering "highly sexualised" conversations with children.

Bagshaw, who used the online names "older guy" and email address "night2remember", had explicit chats with five children between 2008 and 2011.

He made no secret of his age or name and spoke of his desire for sex during the three-year period.

His crimes came to light when that girl's mother spotted one of their talks on her laptop, continued the conversation herself and told him she would report him to police.

He was arrested in October 2012 and his computers were seized, revealing similar online chats with more underage victims. He encouraged them to expose themselves and take part in sex acts. One 12-year-old girl, who was never traced, said she had suffered sexual abuse from her uncle.

Bagshaw encouraged her to take part in this abuse and told her he wanted to meet up and have sex with her, said Mr Reid.

Another 12-year-old girl said she "thought he loved her".

Some of the children recalled little or nothing of the conversations. …
