IF Dennis Wise telling Kevin Keegan what type of players could do the business for Newcastle United was bad, then chief scout Graham Carr showing the way for Champions League winner and serial trophy collector Rafa Benitez surely now seems just as questionable.

Make no doubt about it, Carr has had great success stories with Newcastle with the likes of Yohan Cabaye, Mathieu Debuchy, Loic Remy, Cheick Tiote and Hatem Ben Arfa.

Even signings such as Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa and Remy Cabella could have been more successful if they had been managed differently.

The two players from Ligue 1, though, highlighted a power struggle in the boardroom during the Alan Pardew era and that eventually resulted in the Londoner jumping ship to Crystal Palace.
