MO Diame says that Newcastle United must put their missed chance to go top of the Championship behind them and get into the faces of Derby County.

A 3pm Saturday kick-off could be the cue for a bouncing atmosphere at St James' Park following a tense week on Tyneside.

Newcastle failed to net a new signing on deadline day and a blunt Press conference from Rafa Benitez summed up his frustration after the 2-2 draw with QPR. Diame said: "It's happened now. It was a good opportunity for us to go back to first place.

"It's over and we need to forget it, we need to be focused on the next one."

Diame was also asked if he felt sharp enough to start games again after returning from the African Cup of Nations.

He said: "I feel very good. It was a long trip and I only got back on Tuesday. But I have had a good rest and I feel fresh now."

The Senegal international scored the winner in the play-offs at Wembley last year for Hull City against Sheffield Wednesday. …
