What is the best thing about your job?: Getting to do the thing I enjoy every day! I get to meet and work with some incredible people and develop some fantastic events. Being an arts fundraiser, I get to help support others to do the things that they want to do and to see projects develop right the way through.

What is your proudest achievement?: I've done a few things that I'm particularly proud of. Delivering the launch event for Sunderland's UK City of Culture 2021 bid last year is pretty high up there. There was so much going on at that event and it covered so many different art forms that it proved to be an excellent showcase for arts and culture in our city, but also the number of people that turned up was amazing. I'm also really proud of other events and projects I've worked on, such as Sunderland Shorts Film Festival and Sunderland Soundscape.

What advice would you give to someone starting in your career?: Get involved. I learned a lot of what I do from others around me and the only way I got to know those people was by volunteering and putting myself forward for roles that were challenging but equally rewarding. It's always important to learn from those who are doing and have done your job before, but it's great to be able to have confidence and conviction in your own thoughts and ideas too.

Which individual has inspired you most and why?: Rowena Cade - she was the woman who built the Minack Theatre in Cornwall. She saw the potential for the cliffs at the bottom of her garden to become an amphitheatre, which has gone on to host some of the most amazing theatre performances and stars of the acting world. But it was Rowena who decided to build it, literally moving granite boulders and earth with her gardener in the winter of 1931 to get things started. She had a vision and wanted to achieve something and got on and did it herself. I would like to think that I have the same determination in my own work, that I can develop ideas from scratch and deliver something fantastic that many other people can enjoy and benefit from. …
