Ex-Cummer Director Curating 'A More Perfect Union' at the Space Gallery

There will be an opening reception Friday at the Space Gallery, 120 E. Forsyth St., for "A More Perfect Union: Explorations of Human Rights." The show is being curated by Hope McMath, former director of the Cummer Museum of Art & Gardens, who invited 24 local artists, some well known, some not, to respond artistically to "deepening divisions and aspirations of a diverse society."

In a press release, McMath wrote that "the show is intended to provide a platform for artists to freely inform, challenge and interpret the post-election environment, especially as it relates to the upholding of human rights."

RENOWNED GLASS BLOWER AT JU

Glass blower Fritz Dreisbach will visit Jacksonville University this week. He will give live demonstrations from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday and will give a lecture at 1:30 p.m. On Tuesday he'll do live demonstrations from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. and will give a lecture at 6 p.m. On Wednesday he will give live demonstrations from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. The events are open to the public at the JU Art Annex's Glass Studio but space is limited. DOCUMENTARY AT THE ATLANTIC INSTITUTE

"Enemy of the Reich: A Muslim Woman Defies the Nazis in WWII," a documentary to be followed by a panel discussion, will be held at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Istanbul Cultural Center Ballroom, 2032 Southside Blvd. Admission to the event, part of the Voices of Hope programming surrounding the exhibit "Anne Frank: A History for Today" on display through Feb. 12 at the Museum of Science & History," is free but reservations are preferred.
