THERE'S plenty going on at Peugeot at the moment but the key model going into March and the new registration month will be the 3008 compact SUV.

Peugeot's UK dealers took delivery of their demonstrator models recently, an eye-catching event in itself as a 200-strong convoy of 3008 vehicles set off from Arena MK in Milton Keynes following the French car maker's national dealer conference.

The all-new car is not the first 3008 Peugeot has produced, though its predecessor was a crossover that was more MPV-like than SUV-like.

The newcomer has racy looks and is packed with technology which Peugeot hopes will make a big impression in the UK, the car maker's third biggest market.

The 3008 might have cast off its more sedate clothes but has not lost any of its family-friendly practicality and a seven seat version is on the way in the shape of a new 5008 model.

The new 3008 is a revolution for the brand and is more spacious, more economical and has higher ground clearance than the model it replaces.

Peugeot hopes the new 3008 will win a big slice of Europe's fastest growing car sector. Sales of compact SUVs in Britain were up by 22% over the last year.

Prices start at PS21,795 for an entry-level 3008 Active model and the range includes a diverse selection of petrol and diesel engines with the 118bhp, 1.6-litre BlueHDi expected to be the best seller.

Petrol-wise there are 1.2-litre and 1.6-litre options and four diesel units with power ranging from 100 to 180bhp.

Equipment levels are generous with all models having the AEBS Automatic Emergency Braking System, adaptive driver and front passenger airbags, driver and front passenger side, front and rear curtain airbags, CDS - Dynamic Stability Control and ASR - Electronic Anti-skid System, driver attention alert system, three Isofix child seat fittings, programmable cruise control and speed limiter, and speed limit recognition and recommendation. …
