The relationship between the NFL Jaguars and the city of Jacksonville continues to evolve in a very positive way.

And for this, we are thankful.

The latest chapter involves the opening of Daily's Place, with the new state-of-the-art amphitheater and practice fields. This entertainment venue, adjoining EverBank Field, immediately becomes a source of pride for Jacksonville.

A crown jewel in the development of the Jaguars' complex, this $90 million showcase should serve as a catalyst, as well as anchor, to downtown redevelopment in months and years to come.

Yes, the opening of Daily's Place is cause for significant celebration for many reasons.


It is an example of how public/private initiatives can work. The city is in for $45 million on this project - Jaguars owner Shad Khan is in for the other $45 million. We're incredibly lucky to have an NFL owner like Khan, who will throw in 50 percent of this major investment in our city.

The venue, on its own, represents an exciting leap forward for our city. Jaguars President Mark Lamping estimates that as many as 40 concerts will be held in the facility each year. You can expect 30 at a minimum. It's likely we'll have a concert each Saturday night before an NFL home game. The festive atmosphere for home games should now showcase Jacksonville for an entire weekend, which will be refreshing and invigorating.


We know that we are blessed to be the home of an NFL franchise. We recognize that our market is small, and that it doesn't have the population or the viewership base of most NFL markets. With that comes somewhat of a cap on potential corporate partnerships and investments that are available within the marketplace.

Daily's Place allows the Jaguars to diversify its business portfolio and to add a significant revenue and cash flow stream to the operation. This is good and healthy.

The partnership involving Daily's Place simply strengthens the relationship between the Jaguars and the city of Jacksonville. …
