A TROUBLED man who started taking heroin and crack cocaine in his fifties has admitted a string of burglaries in Teesside.

Lee Millis, 57, pleaded guilty to seven burglaries and one attempted burglary at Teesside Crown Court.

His "rather odd" crime spree - with an apparent penchant for pinching jewellery - lasted about one-and-a-half months last spring, with two burglaries on the same day.

He admitted: |Burgling a home on Highfield Road, Middlesbrough stealing an emerald ring pendant on April 29; |Burgling a home on Lanberry Green, Middlesbrough stealing two rings on May 18; | Burgling a home on Mitchell Avenue, Thornaby, stealing three rings, also on May 18; |Burgling a home on Hemel Close, Stockton with intent to steal on May 19; |Burgling a home on Roseberry Road, Middlesbrough stealing a necklace between May 25 and 31; |Burgling a home at Oakfield House, Normanby with intent to steal on June 4; |Attempting to burgle a home on Southdean Drive, Hemlington, Middlesbrough on June 11; |Burgling a home on Sycamore Road, Ormesby, Middlesbrough with intent to steal on June 14. …
