IN OUR SCHOOL children in Years 3 and 4 have been learning to 'fence'. Fencing is a sport where two players try to touch each other with a sword and avoid being hit by their opponent.

Every Thursday fencing club takes place in the main hall. At the start the children do a warm up. Such as River Bank. The coach calls out "River" or "Bank". If you go on the wrong side you are out of the game so you can sit down.

After the warm up they learn new skills for fencing including 'En Guard' and 'Block'.

When fencing, it is important to wear safety equipment such as a helmet with a face guard. Fencing club was organised by our PE coordinator Mrs Levitt, so the children could have fun. Mr Day is our fencing coach.

Year 4 have been practising fencing in PE lessons ready to take part in a tournament. The tournament was at Monkseaton High School on Thursday 2nd March and we were very successful and were the overall winners. …
