IN the final round of matches in the British League, Northfield A lost their chances of promotion to the Championship Division at the weekend by winning 2 and losing 2 of their matches at Halton.

Northfield defeated Milton Keynes 8-2, and Barrow Tornadoes by 9-1, but lost to the winners of the Championship Division, Whitworth Academy 7-3 and Draycott of Derby by 7-3. Simon Noutch was Northfield's most successful player with seven wins from 8. Karina LeFevre and Joe Clarke got 5-8 whilst Danny Welsh won 2-4. In the same Division, Ormesby's II team won one of their four matches and finished in sixth position. Promoted from the lower teams, George Hill and Jack Dewar did well to win two of their eight matches.

Much of the interest this weekend was in the Division B1 where Swerve won the Division with 3 victories 9-1 over Pudsey, 10-0 against Ormesby III team and 8-2 against Formby, but they lost one match to the team that eventually finished in second position Halton II by 6-4. Swerve played this match without their No. 1 player Alex Ward. For Swerve Ward won all four of his matches, whilst Josh Harland and Nuradin Muktar won 7-8, Dylan Curry won all eight of his sets while Holly Williams won one from four. Beaumont Nomads were on track at the start of the weekend to finish in second position but had a disappointing set of matches.

They suffered a surprise defeat to Ormesby by 6-4, a match in which Thomas Rayner was the star winning two sets.

In the second match Beaumont's were then beaten by Halton III by 8-2 with only one singles winner by Phoenix. On Sunday they beat Formby 9-1, but then could only draw their last match against relegated Derwent 5-5 despite two wins from Taylor.

Ormesby's III team were relegation prospects at the start of the weekend but excelled to beat Beaumont 6 - 4 and won against Pudsey 8-2, but were beaten by Swerve 10-0 and by Draycott 8-2. For Ormesby Rayner produced the best results with four from eight, whilst Chan and Gofton won 3-8 and Cope 2-8. In Division C2 Swerve's II team completed the season with three wins from three played and won Division Championship, Yutan Caspi was the best Swerve player on show winning 5-6 while Joe Wright won 4-6, Sam Bailey and Adam Ridley both 3-6. …
