Term-Time Trips Ruling Is Digested

FINES for Teesside parents taking their kids out of class during term time are still suspended, two councils have confirmed.

But that could be about to change.

In a landmark case, the Supreme Court ruled against a dad who fought a fine he received for taking his daughter to Disney World.

During the case, both Middlesbrough and Stockton Councils suspended all fines until it was concluded.

Now a Middlesbrough Council spokesperson has welcomed the decision ahead of the authority's next step.

"We are pleased that the judgment from the Supreme Court reinforces the importance we place on ensuring pupils' education is not disrupted by taking holidays in term time," said a spokesperson.

"Our legal team is now looking at the judgment and we will provide some further guidance to schools and parents in the next few days."

The authority issued the statement after Isle of Wight dad Jon Platt lost his case. …
