BLYTH Spartans' manager Alun Armstrong has praised the work of the man he replaced in the Croft Park hot seat at the end of September.

Super Spartans have won the Evo-Stik Northern Premier League and sealed a return to Conference North after a five-year absence.

Blyth won the NPL championship with three games to spare and are a massive 17 points clear at the top.

A comfortable 3-0 win over lowly Halesowen Town in front of a delirious four-figure crowd at Croft Park got the promotion party underway.

Luke Armstrong, Sean Reid and substitute Adam Wrightson were the goalscoring heroes on a memorable afternoon in Northumberland.

Armstrong's first season in senior management has been a title-winning one - predecessor Tom Wade not far from his thoughts.

Armstrong said: "I said when I first came in promotion was the aim but it is not about me, it is about the players.

"They have been fantastic all season.

"They were outstanding against Halesowen and we could have scored seven or eight goals. …
