FUNNY man Zach Braff has returned to the director's chair to remake a classic comedy.

The Scrubs co-creator helms the remake of Martin Brest's 1979 heist film Going in Style with a new line-up of screen greats.

The film follows three lifelong pals, all desperate to pay the bills and come through for their loved ones, who decide to risk it all by embarking on a daring bid to knock off the very bank that absconded with their money.

In this Q&A, Braff talks about working with Morgan Freeman, Alan Arkin and Michael Caine - who did many of their own stunts - and why it was so important to film in the same New York neighbourhoods as the original movie.

Q: What attracted you to Going in Style?

A: There were many things. If it had been just a big, fun movie, I would have been intrigued, and then if you told me Ted Melfi wrote it, I would have been more intrigued. And Morgan Freeman, Michael Caine and Alan Arkin are probably my favourite actors. So I just couldn't believe that New Line was interested in me directing the film. What I'm really drawn to is a mix of comedy and heart, and that's what we all wanted for Going In Style. We were all on the same page. I was thrilled when they asked me to direct it.
