Bears 'Will Bounce Back' from Defeat

REDCAR can and must bounce back after the disappointment of Thursday's early exit from the Knockout Cup at the hands of Peterborough That is the message from the SG Petch Bears management ahead of tomorrow's opening Championship match at Scunthorpe, 3pm start.

The Teessiders already trailed by ten points from the first leg of their cup encounter and were virtually out of the competition within a few heats of the start of the return when they fell 14-4 and then 29-29 behind on the night, eventually losing 46-44 (83-95 on aggregate).

Bears were severely hampered by the loss of Tobias Busch with a serious ankle injury at the East of England Showground and his replacement Coty Garcia, with just one meeting behind him this year, failed to score on his debut.

Team manager Jitendra Duffill conceded: "Peterborough doubled their advantage after just three heats and that left us a mountain to climb.

"Fair play to them - they looked the best side on the night and deserved to go through.

"Our top four did a great job tonight but they lacked support.

"Coty fell in his first race - which wasn't the best start to his Redcar career - and he's going to take a couple of meetings to get back up to speed.

"We know he's better than he showed, the ability is there as we saw when he came with Glasgow last season, so it's up to us to get behind him and get the best out of him.

"Richard Hall is still struggling to get his (bikes) set-up right and Josh Bailey did his job - getting three points - but it wasn't enough.

"I said it was likely to be won or lost by the reserves and so it turned out as Nike Lunna (9+2) did a great job for them.

"But it's a long season ahead and we have to go away, get our heads together and come back stronger.

"The rest of the team were good and Ben Barker was phenomenal. …
