CELEBRATING the festive season in Australia is absolutely nothing like the idea of a "traditional" northern hemisphere Christmas.

Growing up, we are bombarded with images of snowmen, roaring fires, roast turkey, ice skating and woolly jumpers in every Christmas TV show or movie.

Here's why celebrating Christmas in Australia rocks.

1. The weather

Let's face it, most of us would prefer to spend our holidays basking in the sun than huddling from the freezing cold. While is a certain cosiness to hanging with family by the fire, let's be honest- that lasts all of about 10 minutes before the novelty wears off.

Warm weather usually brings happier moods all round - and we all need that at Christmas time.

2. Fashion

Yes, yes, the ironic knitted jumpers are all such fun, but really - wouldn't you prefer to spend Christmas Day in your board shorts or a cute summer dress?
