RUGBY LEAGUE: Josh Johnston endured through a 2016 season marred with injury but he is on the comeback trail.

The Emerald Tigers junior failed to run out for the CQ Capras after breaking out the year before.

While he was frustrated at his lack of ISC game time, his grand final win in Rockhampton A-grade with Norths Chargers made up for it. Pre-season has been kind to the 20-year-old, and despite his tender age, he sees the 2017 trials as his lifeline to add to his 30-odd Capras caps.

It would be one of the feel good stories of the year.

"I just have to stay out of the injury ward, pre-season has been tough but I am in a better place than 12 months ago, confidence-wise especially," the backrower said.

"Hopefully I get a fair few games. Looking forward to ripping in in the trials.

"Since Kim Williams came here the club vibe has really picked up, it's been awesome. …
