Rocky Rowers Keen for Contest

ROWING: Fourteen Rockhampton Grammar School rowers will hit the water at Lake Wyaralong for the Queensland State Championship Regatta this weekend.

A quality field will assemble for the event, which will provide an ideal hit-out for the Rocky rowers in the countdown to the nationals in eight weeks' time.

RGS head of rowing Rob Fay (pictured) is confident the local contingent will feature in the medals and says the regatta will also provide a good gauge on how his rowers are tracking in their preparation for the nationals.

"We have a reasonable chance of a medal in the women's under-19 quad, the women's under-17 quad and double and single as well as the men's under-19 quad and men's under-17 four and quad," he said.

"That would be a very good result for us.

"Everyone wants to get a medal but they've got some progress goals of how well they do their start, maintaining their form in the middle of a 2000m race. …
