DEFENCE Department representatives have started contacting landholders to explain what happens next after compulsory acquisitions for the Shoalwater Bay expansion were taken off the table.

Phillipa Rea, whose family own and run over 1000 head of cattle on their property Hillview, at Kunwarara, posted on the Marlborough Against Defence Land Grab about the call she received on Thursday.

She wrote that the spokesperson on the phone said they were going to ring every landholder involved to make sure they were aware of the announcement on Tuesday that there would be no compulsory land acquisitions.

"...the Department of Defence acknowledged that this has been a very stressful time for us," Mrs Rea said.

She said they advised the Master Plan will be delivered by Defence to the Minister for Defence on February 20, 2017 and that she will deliver it to the public some time after that - no time frame for that is available as yet.

"They said that regardless of what is on the Master Plan, there will be no compulsory acquisitions," Mrs Rea wrote. …
